Medical Representative- The Fulcrum of the Company'

I am a second-generation Pharmaceutical employee, because of my father. He worked in an Indian Company which is now more than 150 years old for 42 years ( Can anybody Imagine now?.) My father was a Medical Representative for 35 years and the company could not terminate him (Joking) because he was doing the so called "Targets" month after month, but will not go to the field. The Doctor's and the stockist's use to come to our home those days. A doctor would ask for a course of Antibiotic (Cephalexin) which was considered as the ultimate in community acquired infection and he would give 2 strips of 2 capsules and ask the Doctor to buy the rest from the medical shop. I do not now it was his arrogance, or it was the way the Doctor's respected him those days. The company promoted him as Sales Manger in it's Kochi Depot and he continued to work for another 7 years. He was handling the entire state of Kerala, the M.R's, Managers and even in the month end he was as...

Education- A turn around

The new model of education world wide has improved a lot. With only giving case studies and debating or discussing to find out practical answers. I had been to IIM Ahmedabad for a 3 Tier course in PGDSE and it was only case studies learning. Just one case is given in the morning and we can debate, self learn, unlearn and learn, and many more ways of education.Bookish learning is outdated, if you ask me.  The greatest example I can quote is my elder brother. A below average student, due to family pressure had to complete a degree. Bsc Zoology with Chemistry and Botany as subsidiary's. Second year could not pass Chemistry ( The irony  is our Grand dad was an MA Chemistry the Dean of Madras University pre- independence day). Somehow managed to scrape through in the last chance and got the Bsc Degree. in the meantime he had written CDSE ( Combined Defense Service Examination). He got through and joined in Indian Navy. There was another test called as PABT ( Pilot aptitude and batt...

Naming drugs in India

Who decides the naming of 'Generic Indian Brands' in India. Of course the CDSCO. But the issue is the multiple issues are, Companies are free to manufacture and sell different drugs under the same trade names. This will create big confusion in the Pharmacy level. There is a open saying that the Indian Doctor's are not legible. Now this issue also add fuel to fire. Today I saw a posting of Hetero Healthcare Ltd, for a drug named as "HETRAN" (Vonoprazan) a drug to treat stomach ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It works by blocking the proton pumps in the stomach lining that produce acid. By reducing the amount of acid, it helps to heal ulcers and alleviate symptoms of GERD, such as heartburn and acid reflux. The funniest thing is there is a drug called as "HETAZAN" (Diethyl carbamazepine citrate) a research drug from Lederle (Now Pfizer). This is to treat parasitic worm infection and filariasis (elephantiasis). Filariasis is a disease in...

Blog on "Nadanna Sambavam"

Today I watched a movie "Nadanna Sambavam", a malayalam movie, directed by Vishnu Narayanan starring Biju Menon, Suraj Venjaramoodu and others. A well crafted script and direction was excellent. Both actors have done extremely good, but I will give Suraj an extra pat on the back, because of his sutility to enact the character. He has really matured from an ordinary comedy artist to a genius of an actor. This is the advantage of the new trend of malayalam movies. You don't require Super stars or require granduer sets to take a movie. The theme is the winner and the simple story with a make belief characters takes this movie way ahead from others.
